Gambia is debating over how to proceed persecutions and compenations for those who experienced ruthless oppression and abuses under the Yahya Jammehs regime.

President Adama Barrow said that he will not pursue any legal action related to his illegal detention. He ordered the release of all people detained without a charge or conviction. He has pledged to reform the security services and organize a truth and reconciliation committee modeled on the one in South Africa post-apartheid.
